Medellin, The Next Silicon Valley Of Latin America
October 6th, 2012 ESPACIO, in collaboration with an Innovation Grant from .CO, announces the launch of its coworking space/entrepreneurial center in the heart of Medellin, Colombia.
“We believe Medellin will become the Silicon Valley of Latin America,” said Conrad Egusa, co-founder of ESPACIO. “With the help of the Innovation Grant from .CO, we want to help grow the entrepreneurial community in Medellin. In addition to affordable office space, we will be holding DEMO days, Investor Question/Answers, and free classes ranging from HTML to SEO.”
To help with its goal, ESPACIO is partnering with The Founder Institute and Ruta N, a government sponsored initiative promoting entrepreneurship in Colombia.
ESPACIO helps by providing entrepreneurs a community of learning, mentorship, free PR and marketing help, and design advice. The space will have a part-time in-house designer which companies can access for free. Companies in ESPACIO include those from Startup Chile and The Founder Institute, among others. Its goal is to have 50% Colombians and 50% foreigners in the space. Future plans for the company include starting an early stage seed fund.
The mission of ESPACIO is to further entrepreneurship in Medellin. Medellin was recently nominated as one of the top 25 most innovative cities in the world. The only other city to be nominated in Latin America was Sao Paulo.
ESPACIO was founded by Conrad Egusa and Edinson Alberto Arrieta Aguas. Prior to ESPACIO, Conrad Egusa had founded an angel-investor backed startup in Silicon Valley. He is currently a Mentor at The Founder Institute. Edinson Alberto Arrieta Aguas is the founder of an international tourism company and is completing his Masters Degree in International Business.
ESPACIO, a community for creative entrepreneurs in Medellin.
